Did you know that putting a man in jail for rape is wrong? Yep, it's true. I guess I didn't realize that a predator has to be able to "read your mind" to know that you aren't giving sexual consent. I mean, even if a girl is screaming and kicking her way out of a man's tight grip, it was her fault because she is the one who
had a skirt on
went to the bar
was asking for it
wasn't carrying mace
should have known that she is only seen as a sexual object
is a female.
Another fun fact: All feminists are "bitter and ugly inside and out" and "need to bring others down just to feel good". Oh no! Sound the alarms! It seems that even though I consider myself to be a feminist, I am the same pretty lass that I had been just a minute ago. And my guts don't feel any more disgusting than they were in the first place. How strange. But wait, silly me, I forgot that since I'm a girl I don't get to have a positive opinion about my body because that's considered "conceited" and "narcissistic". I shouldn't be able to readily say that I love my face, or that I like having long legs. Yet, men have every right to judge me however they please because they just can't control themselves. You know the old saying, boys will be boys. Or my personal favorite, when complaining about a guy's stare, you should just remember that it's like they are dogs attracted to a steak! Although I guess human beings do have the capability to control their wandering eyes and hands because people. are. not. dogs. And I am not a piece of meat.
Now, we can't forget the lovely old argument that seemingly every single person absolutely loves to bring up when it comes to having the right to wear what you want without drool coming out of the nearest kid's mouth.
"But wait, what about like, the girls who have their like, butt hanging out of their shorts. I mean, like, I don't want to see that. Oh my god some girls just love attention, they'll do anything to get it."
…..
I'm sorry I didn't realize that when I get up every morning, I dress for you, just you, specifically, I only think of what your lame opinion is when I calculate the exact measurement that my dress has to be in order to direct your attention away from my stunning body. And who says that receiving attention is a bad thing? I love when I'm telling a story and I have everyone at my feet hanging on to every word that I say. Or when my laugh is so loud and dumb sounding that the whole room has their eyes on my red face. But what I don’t love is being oppressed because my undeveloped body is just too much to handle for the average teenage boy.
So you would think after all of this, that only men have been stating these opinions. But as you can see, if you follow the link at the top of the page it is a whole colony of women who believe in this idea of #womenagainstfeminism. Scroll down the site and you will find hundreds of pictures of these females holding up papers with a list of their personal reasons to why antifeminism is the way to go. And their movement is growing. On their Facebook page, they currently have over 23,000 likes.
Now, I want to make something clear. I wrote this article not to just spew a whole truckload of opinion all over everyone's day. I want people to wake up and realize that women should have the same rights as men, and they should be equal in every single way. This shouldn't even be an issue, but it is, and it needs to be cleared up right away because I'm sick of finding things like this website. I want to feel like I am given the same opportunities as others, and currently, I don't.
So please, be aware. Make your voice heard. And remember if someone tries to say something about a boy being like a dog, tell them that you are the dog and they are the steak, and you will destroy them.
It is kind of funny (but all together ignorant) that most of these comments consist of women saying they don't need feminism but in their reasoning actually describe what feminism is. This is a real issue that should be taken seriously and is backed up by plenty of proof from examples of discrimination in the job market to rape culture and wasn't just created to make men look like the bad guys. Feminism is all for gender equality, not for bashing males or thinking that women are the ultimate sex. We are not weaker than men and deserved to be seen as equals and not less capable or looked at as a sexual object. You shouldn't be oppressed on something you can't control, especially your gender. I am tired of hearing that because you have a boyfriend or you enjoy cooking or you are a stay at home mother you can't be a feminist. We do not hate men or femininity but rather hate the patriarchy which these ideas of masculinity and sexualization of women branch from. Obviously I have a bunch of problems with this anti-feminism blog but I am going to point out one comment that really makes me angry. One thing that really bothers me about women who say that they don't need feminism is that because they aren't oppressed by men or patriarchy. Hold on a minute. If that isn't one of the most selfish statements I have ever heard then I don't know what is. If you aren't oppressed (which rarely someone isn't in some way shape or form) then why can't you spread the word of gender equality for people who can't? Reach out and speak for those who can't and for those who can't raise their voice.
ReplyDeleteMorgan, when I started reading your blog I was shocked! After looking at the website and reading this I realized that there are two kinds of feminism. There are feminists like you who believe that women should be equal with men and not a sexual object, and there are feminists who take it too far and even believe that women are better than men. I feel like that form of feminism is almost as bad as the way some men treat women badly that brought up feminism in the first place. And your metaphor about the boy and the dog at the end was fantastic.
ReplyDeleteI sort of do not know how to respond, but at the same time, I do.
ReplyDeletePart of me just does not care. Part of me does. I am neither a feminist or anti-feminist; I say just let people believe in what they want without bringing the other group down.
I see the clothing issue in two ways. One way is, yeah, you can wear whatever your little heart desires. The other way I see it is, if you are going to wear that super-mini skirt and skin-tight belly shirt, you need to realize that you will get looks. I know it is not right that people may try to sexualize you, but at the same time, you need to realize that one person cannot change the views of everyone. So you will get looks, no matter how much of a feminist you are.
The main problem I see is the occasional sexism. Okay, fine, you can hold the door for me, no problem. But when you do something 'simple' to me, like taking a power tool out of my hand saying it is too dangerous, then you will have me unleash on you. When people limit what females are allowed to do when they are perfectly capable of doing it themselves, it is just wrong. I did not realize that putting a screw into a birdhouse with a drill required superior-manly-strength. When simple pleasures are taken from you, then there is a problem.
In general, I normally stray away from this topic. It is always down to the very specific situation to see how I will react. I even start to argue with myself when this topic is brought up.
I agree with Emily, in part. This had a very extreme view and I don't necessarily think that this post speaks for equality, but really the opposite. This post only speaks about men looking at women like pieces of meat, or as you said "steak", but never once does it point out that women do the same thing. Never once have I heard a women comment on the superb acting of Channing Tatum, but rather how hot he looks with his shirt off. However, are women looking at him as meat just as you mentioned men looking at women, or are they really just appreciating what evolution has taught them to appreciate? Keep in mind, I'm not saying that it is completely acceptable for a guy to rape a women because she was "wearing a skirt", but if you or anybody else with lady parts decides to wear promiscuous clothing, then they should probably suck it up when guys happen to notice, or if they have an issue with that, maybe put on some more clothes. Don't get me wrong, I am all for equality, but it just seems like you are very one-sided on this topic, and I don't really think "destroying" the male race for appreciating sexuality is the right way to go. To add, our society is extremely progressive, as of late women can even do everything a man can do in the military. We can be doctors, lawyers, astronauts, pilots, business owners, mathematicians, and scientists. Personally I don't feel oppressed, i feel equal.

DeleteLet me try typing this again...
DeleteI think that it is inappropriate to suggest that "evolution has taught [women] to appreciate" shirtless men.
Women, like men, do tend to stare. You do have somewhat of a point. But in my experience, and obviously Morgan's, women tend to show more, how to put it... control... by turning away.
Our society is barely progressive. Yes, we abolished slavery, but we still have racism. Yes, we gave women the right to vote, but we still have sexism.
Women cannot do everything a man can do in the military. Ever here of the front lines? The Navy Seals? The Green Berets?
Also, while women can have those occupations that you mentioned, multiple studies and statistics show that they are much less likely to be hired. And because of the way many women are treated, they are much less likely to even try to go into those fields.
